When scanning the Kbb sector for the latest happenings to the Kitchen/Bedroom/Bathroom market we look for press releases from various brands, trade shows and new product releases and one concerning an "award winning shower-toilet" caught our eye.
An 'Award Winning Shower-Toilet'? - We shit you not
After our initial surprise we had the inevitable questions of, 'how?', 'why?' and 'is there really a market for this?'which were not immediately answered in reading any of the press releases. So we then researched the company website for the official product brochure to find out more about this interesting 'shower-toilet' product with a view to dispel the image we had in our minds, which we have used as the headline image to this post.
The brochure wasn't immediately clear either with a lot of buzz words about the shower-loo being 'easy to clean' only bringing up more unwanted images of shower-loo's being in public bathrooms and how normal bathrooms can be dirty enough and if adding a shower in the mix is really an ideal move?
Even the .iF Design Award Write Up isnt clear
It is true that the shower-toilet press release that initially sparked our interest was in actual fact, an award winning shower-toilet and not just any award but the well known .iF Design Awards. But upon a read through of its .iF Design Award write up, we were still left with more questions than answers.
Just us, or does this .iF Design Award press release (below) not actually explain how it works and leave you with more questions than answers too?
.IF "TECEneo redefines personal hygiene through purist, intuitive and timeless design. Thorough cleaning, easy usage and less material make this toilet a standard on its own. By eliminating electronics, it delivers shower-toilet comfort via simple stainless-steel rotary controls for highest voluminous spray and temperature control — efficiency without complexity. Its minimalist shape, cyclon flush technology, rimless bowl, and cera clean surface ensure lasting hygiene and easy cleaning. Offering comfort, sustainability, and independence — no electrical power, no hassle — TECEneo makes modern hygiene simple and timeless."
A pleasantly rich and full jet of water cleans quickly and thoroughly. TECEneo shower toilet technology has proven this with an excellent test result in a major shower toilet compari- son by a German university. Showering fun that can be quick, but doesn't have to be: Because TECEneo offers a full volume of water without waiting, as often and as long as you want - with fresh water straight from the tap.
So What the Heck is the TECEneo shower toilet?
It took seeing one image (of the inner workings) to finally hit home that the 'TECEneo shower toilet' isnt a combination shower-toilet were you can have a shower whilst using the toilet but that the word 'shower' should be constrained to the context of cleaning your behind, after using the toilet.
Think instead of the TECEneo shower toilet as a combination toilet and bidet.
One were you can adjust the water pressure and water temperature not unlike using the controls on your shower, hence the use of the word 'shower'.
As someone who has never used a Japanese Smart Toilet, you will have to forgive my naivety.
Here is a press release about the TECEneo shower toilet;
Leading German manufacturer TECE has announced that its TECEneo shower toilet has received the prestigious iF Design Award 2026. The jury praised the product’s clean aesthetic, premium ceramic quality, and strong focus on simplicity, hygiene, and sustainability.
Designed with innovation at its core, the TECEneo operates entirely without electricity, using water pressure alone. Its timeless, modern design is complemented by high-quality rimless ceramics, ultra-quiet yet powerful cyclone flushing technology, and an advanced CeraClean coating for enhanced hygiene.
Combining form and function, the TECEneo is engineered to elevate the user experience, delivering exceptional cleanliness and comfort. The elegant wall-hung design features intuitive rotary controls on either side, allowing users to easily activate water flow and adjust temperature to their personal preference.
So whilst the Kitchens Kitchens team had many many reservations and questions about this product, upon learning what it actually is and how it works we do think that a combi toilet-bidet isnt necessarily a bad thing and there is an obvious need for it. Its also one less bowl to clean.
Maybe there is room for a Japanese Smart Shower Toilet as we imagined in the headline image however?
Over to you Tokyo!
