NW appliance maker named Exporter of the Year

Manufacturer Glen Dimplex Home Appliances (GDHA) has been named Exporter of the Year at the prestigious Business Masters Awards in Manchester run by TheBusinessDesk.com.

The company, which manufactures Stoves, Belling and New World cooking appliances at its factory in Merseyside, was awarded the title of North West Exporter at the awards, following the expansion of its export markets. The company recorded an 800 per cent increase in overseas sales in the past three years.

Car manufacturer Jaguar and security barrier specialist ATG were among the competition in contention for the prize.

Chief executive Denver Hewlett said: “We are very proud of our Made in Britain credentials and they have played a huge role in the expansion and growth in our export sales in recent years. The association between British manufacturing and quality is a message we are hearing all the time and so it is fantastic to be recognised for our achievements in selling British products around the world.”

Since repatriating 85 per cent of its manufacturing back to the UK since 2009, GDHA has seen significant expansion into overseas markets including Australia, France, Spain, Belgium, and most recently, Russia.

GDHA also received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2012 in the International Trade category.
