Cosentino wins Red Dot award for Dekton

The Cosentino Group has been awarded a 2016 Red Dot award in product design for its Dekton XGloss surface, described by the company as a “new line of polished, high-tech, ultra-compact surfaces characterised by their crystal shine”.

According to Cosentino, its research and development department spent almost two years developing the nanotechnology treatment used to create the “dazzling brightness” of Dekton XGloss, named 'nanocoating process'.

The process gives Dekton XGloss “unique hidrofugant – water repellent – properties creating an extraordinary resistance to stains”. The company also uses a mechanical polishing process for the product to create a “crystal-like” shine.

The key to the Dekton technology is that it employs exclusive Sinterized Particle Technology, a high tech process which represents an accelerated version of the metamorphic change that natural stone undergoes when subjected to high temperatures and pressure over thousands of years.  Sinterized particle technology synthesizes truly innovative procedures from the most advanced technology industries. Cosentino says this evolution represents a technological and industrial leap capable of generating a new process, a revolutionary material and a leading product.  Electronic microscopy allows Cosentino to fully appreciate the material’s zero porosity, a consequence of the sinterization and ultra-compaction process exclusive to DEKTON. This zero porosity and lack of the micro-defects that cause tension or weak spots mark the difference as far as DEKTON is concerned.

“This Red Dot Award, recognises Cosentino’s permanent commitment to Research and Development, and rewards, with best Product Design 2016, a unique and extraordinary surfacing material like Dekton XGloss,” said Cosentino Group marketing and communications director Santiago Alfonso.

The Product Design competition has existed since 1954. Its award, the Red Dot, is an internationally recognised quality seal. The best products receive the Red Dot: Best of the Best award and on 4 July 2016, the global design scene will come to Essen, Germany, to celebrate the best products of the Red Dot Award: Product Design for this year.
