Haier recalls 138,000 washing machines

Chinese appliance giant Haier is recalling four washing machine models, which may be affected by a potential overheating issue.

Issued with immediate effect, the recall affects a total of 138,000 washing machines available to consumers between 2007 and 2010 – models HW-C/D 1460/1470 and HW-C/D 1260/1270 – which are no longer on sale.

The potential overheating issue may also be applicable to certain Bush models, manufactured by Haier, which were sold in Argos stores between 2008 and 2011.

Haier, together with Argos, has started a repairs process, whereby all affected customers will be contacted to arrange a free-of-charge engineer to repair the appliance.
The appliance brand said the safety risk associated with the recalled models is deemed to be very low by official Trading Standards authorities.

In an official statement, Haier said: “We reiterate that customer safety and satisfaction are paramount to Haier. We believe that this repairs strategy is the best way possible for us to offer a fair solution to our affected customers, as agreed with Trading Standards authorities.”
Customers who have any concerns can contact Haier's repairs service on: 0800 888 6124 in the UK or 1800 848 935 in the Republic of Ireland. The company can also be contacted by email at modifications@0800repair.com.
